Liver Function Test (LFT) in Perungudi, Chennai
கல்லீரல் செயல்பாட்டு பரிசோதனை (LFT)
What is the Liver Function Test (LFT) test?
An LFT measures bilirubin, liver enzymes (SGOT/AST, SGPT/ALT, alkaline phosphatase, GGT where included) and proteins such as albumin. It shows how well the liver is working and whether it is inflamed.
Why is it done?
- Jaundice, abdominal pain or nausea
- Fatty liver, alcohol use or long-term medicines
- Hepatitis follow-up and routine health checkups
How to prepare
- Many doctors prefer 8–10 hours of fasting; follow your doctor's advice
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before
- Tell us about the medicines you take
Sample
Blood from a vein (serum).
Understanding your result
Raised enzymes can suggest liver inflammation, fatty liver, medicine effects or bile flow problems. High bilirubin is linked with jaundice. Your doctor looks at the pattern, not one value.
